Hanoi, with its imperial legacy spanning over a millennium, is a city where ancient history and cultural diversity blend to shape its unique character. A visit to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology unveils the lifestyles and vibrant identities of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups making it essential for anyone keen to understand the country’s distinctive diversity. Travel back in time to the ancient Temple of Literature, established in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius. This site showcases classic Vietnamese architecture and was also the nation’s first university.

A delightful lunch awaits at Bun Cha Huong Lien, the renowned eatery where President Obama dined with Anthony Bourdain. Following this, explore the Ho Chi Minh Complex and Ba Dinh Square, a revered pilgrimage site where botanical gardens, monuments, and pagodas abound. Key highlights include the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House, the Presidential Palace, the Ho Chi Minh Museum, and the One Pillar Pagoda. Afterwards, enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee by Hoan Kiem Lake before embarking on a cyclo ride through the bustling Hanoi Old Quarter, where the lively street scene of scooters, bicycles, cyclos, and cars adds to the city’s vibrant atmosphere.

Early arrival at Lao Cai train station is followed by a transfer to Topas Ecolodge in Sapa for breakfast and time to freshen up. It is time to immerse yourself in the picturesque scenery and explore the culturally rich ethnic villages of the area. A transfer to the trek starting point near Sin Chai village sets the stage for a day of adventure, surrounded by stunning views of high mountains, waterfalls, and deep valleys. This trail leads to the Red Dao village of Nam Nhiu, where villagers offer a warm welcome with a cup of green tea, providing an opportunity to learn about their unique traditions. Leaving the village behind, a small dirt trail opens to a breathtaking view of rice terraces dotted with bamboo huts, used by local farmers during harvest. Passing rice terraces and crossing a river, you will walk along a quiet road before arriving at Nam Cang village.

Lunch is served at Nam Cang Riverside Lodge, with the jungle behind and the river in front, providing a tranquil setting. Nam Cang village is located in the most remote area of Sapa. After exploring the village and learning how the locals make writing paper, jewellery, and embroidery, you will meet your vehicle for the return to Topas Ecolodge, where you can enjoy leisure time before dinner.

The ancient riverside town of Hoi An, once a bustling Asian trading port from the 16th to the 19th centuries, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As one of South-east Asia's oldest town, Hoi An is renowned for its well-preserved architecture, historical landmarks, and delightfully relaxed ambience. Its waterfront and Old Town, lined with Chinese shophouses, are especially enchanting at night when illuminated by hundreds of colourful lanterns reflected in the water. Stroll through the narrow winding streets of the Ancient Quarter, taking in the town's highlights including Chua Ong Pagoda, the Chinese Assembly Halls, Tan Ky ancestral house, the 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge, and the vibrant market.

After exploring Hoi An, the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy, whether you prefer shopping, leisurely walks through Hoi An's Old Town, or relaxing by the hotel's swimming pool.

Known as Vietnam's "Rice Bowl," the southern Mekong Delta is a lush, fertile region with extensive waterways, traditional villages, verdant rice paddies, coconut groves, and fruit orchards. This day tour to My Tho offers a glimpse into rural life in the Delta. A motorboat ride down the Tien River takes you past floating fish farms and islands, then through the secluded Xep canal, once part of a water coconut jungle. Afterward, travel along village paths in a 'Xe Lam' or by bicycle to a family garden and workshop, where you can see and taste coconut candy, and fiery rice wine made by the locals. Take a break to enjoy honey tea and tropical fruits from the Delta, then a tranquil hand-rowed sampan ride along a palm-fringed creek offers moments of serenity. At a riverside restaurant, a lunch of 'Delta' specialities is served, followed by a boat trip back to My Tho for driving to Ho Chi Minh City.

A journey back in time reveals the grandeur and legacy of the Khmer Empire. Angkor, once the royal seat of a dynasty of Khmer kings, ruled over one of Southeast Asia’s most expansive and prosperous kingdoms. The visit begins with the magnificent Angkor Wat, constructed between AD 1113 and 1150 during the reign of King Suryavarman II. Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious structure, offers profound insight into the history and achievements of the powerful Khmer Empire. Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, this vast temple complex is a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. Its design symbolises Mount Meru, the mythical home of the gods, with five central towers representing the mountain’s peaks. Stone galleries, terraces, and expansive grounds invite exploration, adorned with intricate bas-reliefs that narrate mythological stories, historical events, and scenes of daily life in extraordinary detail.

In the early afternoon, set off on an excursion of discovery by boat, oxcart, and on foot to visit villages that have changed little since the days of Jayavarman VII. Enjoy a refreshing cocktail at the secluded country villa, Chandara, overlooking the paddy fields. The evening is highlighted with a five-course Khmer dinner beneath the stars, illuminated by candlelight, ensuring an unforgettable and truly memorable experience.
